There was once a sailor who was lost at sea. He had been stranded on a little raft for two days and finally came across a tiny island. On this island there was a coconut tree right at the shore. The sailor, seeing a single coconut and dying of thirst, dragged himself to the top of the tree and snatched the coconut, excited to drink the water that was inside it. But then, he noticed above the leaves a large seabird that was fast asleep. Out of his hunger for food he slowly came up behind it, coconut wedged under one arm, getting ready to snatch its foot. Right as he grabbed the bird’s foot, it woke and started thrashing and scratching the man’s hands and face, causing the coconut to fall into the ocean and the man to tumble to the ground, leaving him alone on an island with broken bones.
